Your Security

 

We review our security arrangements on a regular basis. It is also imperative that you ensure that the PC you are using to access any online banking service is secure.

We have produced a leaflet about online security which highlights the most common types of online fraud, gives guidance on some preventative steps which can be taken and advises what action to take should you suspect that you are a victim of online fraud.

How to make your PC secure

  • Install and regularly update anti virus software on your PC to help protect your PC against virus programs that may maliciously capture your personal information
  • Update your PC with the latest security patches on a regular basis
  • Consider using a personal firewall
  • Ensure you use a password for accessing your PC
  • Be aware of your surroundings and ensure that no one can view your screen and watch you entering your login details
  • Use a screen saver and screen lock if your are leaving your PC unattended for any period of time
  • Turn off your broadband modem when not in use

Maintaining online security

  • Never write down or divulge your pasword for anyone, including Bank of Scotland staff
  • Never use easily guessed passwords such as your name or favourite sporting team
  • Never let others login to online banking services using your details
  • Never open emails from unknown senders. These may contain viruses
  • Never enter security details after clicking on a link in an email
  • Always remember to change your password at regular intervals, at least once a month
  • Always log-off and close your browser once you have finished using online banking services
  • Never provide anyone else with access to your token
